Persuasive Strategies - New iPod iPad App to Help Students Master Stereotyping, Name Calling & More



E Skills Minimod Persuasive Strategies helps students practice and master the important language skills of recognizing and classifying persuasive strategies. Persuasive strategies are techniques used to influence a reader's opinion. The strategies in this app include bandwagon, repetition, loaded words, stereotyping, name calling, celebrity endorsement, facts and statistics, peer pressure, and testimonials.

Ways to Play


Practice Level The student will read a sentence. Given three choices, the student will choose the correct persuasive strategy. An incorrect response allows the student to read the sentence again and select the correct answer. Single Player The student plays a Bingo-like game against the computer. The student reads a sentence. Given three choices, the student will choose the correct persuasive strategy. Choosing the correct answer allows the student to place a marker on the game card. Five markers in a row win the game. Multi Player The student plays a Bingo-like game against another student. The first student to fill his/her game card with five markers in a row wins the game.


Levels of Difficulty


Red Level Persuasive strategies include bandwagon, loaded words and repetition. Blue Level Persuasive strategies include stereotyping, name calling and celebrity endorsement. Green Level Persuasive strategies include facts and statistics, peer pressure and testimonials.
