Celebrate technology Trendsetters with the highest peer recognition

IEEE will recognize the 23 global giants that have made remarkable progress in technology for the benefit of humanity, the environment and the development of knowledge, of 2013 IEEE Honors ceremony on 29 June at 7 pm PT in San Diego Bayfront hotel in San Diego, California, United States. The event will also be streamed live via the IEEE.tv.

Some of these accomplishments include: unleash the power of high-capacity, low-cost optical networks; fine tuning the transmission of sound through muffling the roar of Jet engines and helping the world leaders hear each other at the United Nations; Engineering robotic planetary missions to Mars, Jupiter and Saturn; and the creation of the field of tissue engineering.

IEEE's highest honor, the IEEE Medal of honor, was presented to Irwin mark Jacobs, founder and Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Qualcomm, Inc., in a separate ceremony on June 6.

IEEE medal recipients are three 2013 were bestowed national medals from the President of the United States: Leo l. Beranek, founder, Bolt Beranek and Newman (now Raytheon BBN Technologies), a recipient of the United States National Medal of science; and Irwin mark Jacobs, founder and Chairman and CEO Emeritus, Qualcomm, Inc. and Robert s. Langer, David H. Koch Institute Professor, Massachusetts Institute of technology, the recipients of the United States National Medal of technology and innovation.

In addition, Andrew Brimer and Abigail Cohen co. leads the student team of Washington University in St. Louis, MO, United States, and will accept the first prize in the IEEE Presidents change the global competition for their design of cost-effective, pocket-sized medical device, which can accurately diagnose and monitor such diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis.

LG Electronics DD Motor Technology to be recognized by the EU

LG Electronics said its DD (direct drive) motor, the key component of a washing machine, has been certified by “ VDE (Verband Deutscher Rlektrotechniker)’’ – German Association of Electrical Engineers- as a product with a life span of 20 years, the longest yet to be certified by the VDE. The VDE has officially certified that LG’s drum washing machine is capable of a total 4,400 loads of laundry for 20 years (based on 4.2 loads a week and 220 loads a year).

The VDE is one of Europe’s largest technical, scientific associations that test the safety and credibility of varied electric, electronics products and consumer goods.
