GameChanger Charity Launch Campaign to Benefit Kids

According to some estimates, more than $34 billion of cell phones sit idle in drawers of homes across America. Fifty million tons of e-waste is produced each year. In fact, an estimated 70 percent of heavy metal in landfills consists of discarded electronics.

That’s why the Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF) and GameChanger Charity, which collects donated electronics and applies proceeds to benefit children, have partnered on a year-long campaign that brings together the schools, businesses, and community of Irvine to do their part in helping save the planet – and improving the lives of kids and schools along the way.

The campaign includes outreach throughout Irvine.  All electronic devices collected during the campaign will be wiped clean and recycled or resold.  All funds resulting from the donated devices will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the City of Irvine, with proceeds dedicated to helping school kids throughout Irvine.

New strong RGB 3D effects laser light for Parties

With the new ES-800S RGB 3D Laserworld released a very strong entry-level laser light system with integrated Star- and 3D-Effect and an output power of up to 800mW. Since the last Prolight&Sound in Frankfurt these 3D lasers have become very popular – Laserworld presented its CS-1000RGB 3D there.

The 3D effects lasers were further improved and different variations have been developed. Based on the very good experience with and high demand for star effects lasers, the ES-800S RGB 3D has been created as intermediate solution between a normal star effect and the advanced 3D laser effects:

This showlaser system creates different kinds of patterns like dotted circles, classic star effects, helix/spiral visualizations but also has glass gobos included to extend the effects further. It is hard to describe the variety of patterns and the different, morphing lines and figures (like spirographic effects), but it is amazing to see them in their different colors. As an RGB Laser light the ES-800S RGB 3D mixes red, green and blue and thus generates much more diversity in the pattern appearance than it would be possible with two-color-only star effect lasers.

In sound-to-light or stand alone mode, the effects vary depending on the general settings, but if controlled by DMX the different effects can be selected individually and additional modifications are possible, like super fast strobe effects or rotation speed.

This laser light system is extremely easy to handle, as it can run in sound-to-light mode and stand alone. But it’s also possible to use DMX512 control, so the laser can be seamlessly integrated to existing lighting setups. Due to the red, green and blue laser sources multiple colors can be displayed.

The ES-800S RGB 3D comes in a rugged aluminium housing (like all ES units do) and thus is also suitable for mobile use. The 3D-like effects are projected through 2 apertures at the laser.

As laser sources the ES-800S RGB 3D is equipped with >100mW red, >60mW green and >400mW royal blue.

The ES-800S RGB 3D works at a deflection angle of up to 120° due to the advanced double-laser-apertures and the optimized effects gratings.

NTI introduces redundancy Switch for VGA

Network Technologies Inc (NTI) announces the addition of redundancy switch PRIMUX ® as an optional support for their popular VGA KVM matrix Switches via CAT5. Switch redundancy can instantly switch all user stations and connections from the host adapter to switch an array of back-up if the primary drive fails.

The redundancy switch PRIMUX RDSW-restores all of the connections between users and servers if the primary VGA KVM Matrix Switch PRIMUX needs to be taken out of service. The position of a switch in the drive determines that switch Matrix is used. With dual redundant AC power, the unit, without interruption, it automatically switches to the second source of energy if it fails the first energy source. These guarantees are ideal for broadcast applications where downtime is measured in seconds.

New S-class with rear climate control system of Preh

Control system specialist Preh developed a solution for the rear climate control system for the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which sets new standards in reducing weight, feeling, lighting, accurate processing and software development.

An example of total weight — compared to the previous version, the weight of the rear control system can be reduced by more than 50% to about 200 g.  The decisive factor is an elaborate design which allows for light guide lighting control panel with only 10 LEDs. So, the power requirements were greatly reduced. As a result of this new development, the massive and consequently heavy heatsinks can be omitted.

Using a combination of snap disks and Silicon contact mats with 0.5 N, Preh action achieved excellent haptics, as well as the perfect alignment of the individual function keys within the line.

Systems for a variety of control situations lie well on the side of the software. If, for example, the driver gets out and leaves the vehicle at rest at low temperatures, then backseat passengers can retrieve the motor waste heat from climate control system, even when the ignition is switched off.

Significant software development took place at Preh in German Development Center in Bad Neustadt and also in collaboration with software development at the factory. From this, the control system specialist could fulfill all the SPICE level 3 requirements, as confirmed by an assessment of MBtech (Mercedes-Benz technology) and has already taken place by the end of 2011, on behalf of Daimler.  Software development processes of Preh were put under the microscope, a week-long. As a result, the automotive supplier has been certified to the standard of all their scope in SPICE level 3.

Jochen Ehrenberg, Executive Vice President of product development, said, "we have been a supplier to Mercedes-Benz S-class for more than 10 years and it is amazing how much progress we have made in the development of rear climate control system. Overall, our contribution to the new S-class is just a detail. But the sum of perfect details, finally makes the Mercedes flagship that is. "
