Archos Mp3

Getting an Archos MP3 Player

Normally, I stick to companies I’m familiar with since they tend to deliver a consistent level of quality. However, when I came across the Archos MP3 and media players, I decided to give it a whirl since they seemed fairly impressive in terms of technology.

After trying it out, I don’t think they are for everyone but they do provide some features that may of interest to lots of consumers.

Archos MP3 History

After I decided to buy an Archos MP3 and media player, I looked into the company a little bit more and discovered that have a relatively long history in creating these types of players. Although Archos has been around since 1992, they started making the Archos MP3 player in 2000 and haven’t stopped improving their devices since that time.

The newest version of the Archos MP3 player is called an Internet Media Tablet. These were launched in 2008 and have made some impressive waves with electronics’ fans.

Some Impressive Features

These Internet media tablets are not solely Archos MP3 devices, however. Not only can you listen to music but you can download the music you want to hear, watch videos of your favorite bands, and even do online research on the new bands you uncover.

That’s because these tablets are more like smaller, portable computers than your standard digital music player. For one, the device comes with a built-in processor that allows you to seamlessly navigate the Internet via the large, high-resolution screen. The screen, if you’re curious, is a full 4.8 inches in size and is touch sensitive.

You’re going to find hard drive sizes in these Archos MP3 and media devices that rival even the largest on the market. While the previous model’s hard drive maxed out at 250 GB, the new Archos 7 has a unit with a hard drive capable of holding 320 GB. That’s pretty impressive because the device is so small and weighs less than two pounds.

Great Accessories & Other Features

Another huge feature that I love is the DVR Station that can be purchase separately for these Archos MP3 and media players. Literally, this accessory lets you use your device as a DVR so you can record your favorite programming and watch it at your convenience at a later time and date.

While most cable companies and TiVo charge you an extra fee for this service, the DVR station allows you to do this without the additional charges.

The battery life on one of these players is pretty high, too. You can get up to 7 hours of video playback on one charge or 22 hours of music playing. That’s comparable to the MP3 devices sold by leading competitors.

The device can support several different formats but you can also get plug-ins directly from the company’s web site that allow you to expand the number of supported formats.

Buying Your Own Archos MP3 Device

While I have the 250 GB Archos 5, the Archos 7 has hit the market. At Amazon, you can purchase the 160 GB model for about $370 and the 320 GB model for just over $550. If you want the Archos 5, you can get the 250 GB model for less than $400 at the same site.
