An Introduction to Slik Tripod

For the person who has more than a passing interest in photography there will come a time when a tripod is not only a much desired accessory, but also a much needed one as well.

Photos are only as good as the camera taking them and the steadiness of the hand that holds it. You can only hold a camera steady for so long and some shots just will not look as a good as they would with a Slik Tripod holding everything steady.

Slik Tripod- 615-315

Slik tripods come in many variations and head types; a particular online favorite  is the 615-315. This is a mid size tripod useful for still photography or creating videos.

Features
  • Height 24”- 74”
  • Weight- 7 lbs
  • AMT alloy legs
  • Pro 700 DX pan head
  • Quick release plate
  • Superior leg locks
Pros

A Slik Tripod is made to steady your camera for the perfect shot  and provide safety for your camera. One of the ways this is achieved is through the leg locks, if the locks are cheap or inadequate they can give way, ruining the shot or worse yet damaging the camera. This tripod offers 3 position leg angle locks that are of all metal construction, nothing cheap made  about these.

The choice of head  is really a personal preference  but the pan head on the Slik tripod 615-315  is a superior head. Built to hold a whopping 15 pounds this should hold most equipment sufficiently. If you are a ball head fan or need a head rated   for more weight, you can easily swap the pan head out for one of your choosing.

For a tall individual this Slik tripod is a dream come true. Even someone well over six feet tall can operate their camera from a stable platform without bending to anuncomfortable position.

The legs and center column on this tripod are large diameter with two lengthwise grooves built in for easily locating the legs and keep them from twisting once assembled. This keeps the legs strong and stable without adding a significant amount of weight.

Cons

This Slik tripod is not the heaviest on the planet but it is heavy enough that you may not want to carry it on a several mile hike. However the stability of the unit more than makes up for the added weight.

Bottom Line

Camera equipment does not come cheap, a good professional camera can cost several hundred to several thousand dollars and this is not something you want to trust to a substandard tripod. Besides when it comes to the perfect shot, you do not want to risk a shaky camera or tripod, so stick to the brand that has proven itself repeatedly. This is a great tripod with many options, and the price isnot bad either.
